SECTION  02900 PLANTING

 PART 1 - GENERAL 

1.01 SUMMARY

1.02 SUBMITTALS

Submit warranty and maintenance data. 

1.03 QUALITY ASSURANCE

Comply with governing codes and regulations. Provide products of acceptable manufacturers which have been in satisfactory use in similar service for three years. Use experienced installers. Deliver, handle, and store materials in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions, 

1.04 WARRANTY 

Warrant trees and shrubs for a period of one year after date of Substantial Completion, against defects including death and unsatisfactory growth and except for defects resulting from neglect by Owner, abuse by others. Replace unsatisfactory plant material at end of warranty period. One replacement is required.

PART 2- PRODUCTS

 2.01 MATERIALS

  1. Provide lawns.

  2. Provide topsoil as may be required to supplement existing.

  3. Provide plants and trees.

  4. Provide related materials such as soil amendments, loam and mulch.

  5. Provide related landscape accessories such as edgings and landscape sheet.

PART 2- PRODUCTS

 2.01 MATERIALS

  1. Plants and trees: Balled in burlap and graded in accordance with American Standard for Nursery Stock, ANSI Z60. 1. Refer to plan for selection and sizes.
  2. Topsoil: From site stockpile with additional fertile, friable topsoil from local source.

  3. Lawns:  Bermuda sod.

  4. Soil amendments and fertilizer: Use Nursery Special  and Ozmocote fertilizer recommended corrections and additions to tested soil. Compost from local sources.

  5. MulchUse Rubberific  Forrest Green and Earthtone mulch, or well aged ground or shredded bark.

  6. Additives for plant pits: Planting trees and shrubs: Mix Terra-Sorb® evenly with the backfill soil at a rate of 2-oz (by weight) per inch caliper for B&B trees, or 1-oz (by weight) per 5-gallons for containerized trees/shrubs

  7. Accessories:

  8. Edging:  Permaloc ProLine Aluminum Edging (1/8” x 4” ) Size and (Mill Finish) in a 16'-0" section as manufactured by Permaloc Corporation, Holland, MI 1-800-356-9660. Sections to include (5) 12" (30.5cm) aluminum stakes. Sections to include a 4" (102cm) stakeless snapdown connection system to interlock adjacent sections. Edging to be 6063 – T6 alloy.Permaloc aluminum edging with integral stakes

  9. Landscape fabric: Dewitt Pro5 Five ounce woven, needle punched, polypropylene fabric designed for professional and commercial use. Colored lines located 12 inches apart make for easy plant alignment. http://www.dewittcompany.com/wovenf.html#pro5

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.01 INSTALLATION

  1.  Install materials in accordance with approved submittals. Install landscape work in proper relation with adjacent construction and with uniform appearance. Coordinate with work of other sections.
  2. Prepare topsoil by mixing fertilizer with loam. Apply 2” mushroom soil.  Plow in 4” to 6” deep and fine grade.  Apply fertilizer at a rate of 2 lbs of actual nitrogen per 1000 sq. ft. for plant beds and 2 lbs per inch of trunk for tree pits.

  3.  Install soil mix to a depth of 6" in plant beds.

  4.  Install woven landscape fabric covering entire plant bed.

  5.  Install edging for full length of edge of plant beds abutting lawn area.

  6.  Excavate as required for trees and shrubs.

  7.  Install plant material and backfill with soil mix. Incorporate Terra*sorb and fertilizer into each planting pit per manufacturer’s recommendations.  Stake and guy trees. Water thoroughly. Allow for soil settlement.

  8.  Replace damaged materials.

  9.  Maintain for one year if maintenance agreement is approved by Owner.
